FAQs

Q: What is there to do in Hope?

A: The historic town of Hope, Alaska is on the Kenai Peninsula and is the original gold mining town in Alaska - even before the Yukon. There are still active gold claims being mined in Hope. Six Mile Creek runs through Hope, and it boasts the only guided Class V white water rapids. Many beloved hiking and mountain biking trails are found throughout Hope. And in late-July, the pink salmon run brings many visitors to town. We describe Hope as a “Little House on the Prairie experience, with decent cell phone coverage.” Many folks make Hope their base to the adventures on the Kenai Peninsula. Visit the Hope Chamber website at: hopealaska.us for more local businesses.

Q: What is the best way to get to Hope?

A: Guest fly into the Anchorage International airport then typically rent a car for the 80 minute drive to Hope along the scenic Seward Highway. There is no Uber, Lyft, taxi service or public transportation within Hope.

Q: Is there cell service or internet in Hope?

A: Depending on your service provider, you should have solid cell phone coverage. There is no reliable wifi in Hope, including at the lodge. We do get intermittent internet service, but the most reliable service comes from our cell phone carriers.

Q: Are the cabins pet-friendly?

A: While we love our 4-legged friends, we currently have only one cabin that is pet-friendly upon approval. The Bridge Cabin sits on its own 2 acre parcel and has wood floors throughout, so it is ideal for pets that have received prior permission by Bear Creek Lodge. To find out if your pet is able to stay in the Bridge Cabin, please send an email to: lodging@bearcreeklodgeak.com prior to booking your stay. All of our other cabins do not allow pets to stay. Your pet may be on the property, so long as it remains on-leash and cleaned up after. But your pet may never go inside any cabin, the day lodge or the restaurant other than the Bridge Cabin.

Q: What is the size of the Bear Creek Lodge property?

A: Bear Creek Lodge and Dirty Skillet sit on 2 connected properties that make up 4 private acres. There are 8 cabins, a day lodge and a dinner restaurant on-site.

Q: Are all of the Bear Creek cabins “dry,” or do any have private bathrooms?

A: The Cottage is our only cabin with a private bathroom and a full kitchen. The other cabins share the Wash Hut, which was newly finished in 2022 and is attached to the Day Lodge.

Q: When is Bear Creek Lodge open for the season?

A: We typically open in mid-May for the “Hopener,” when the rest of the town opens back up, as well. We remain open through early-fall, typically late-September.

Q: Can the entire lodge be rented for a private event?

A: Absolutely! We rent for reunions, retreats and weddings. CLICK HERE for information on hosting a private event here at Hope Alaska’s Bear Creek Lodge.
